Big Slick vs. Pocket Rockets slothoki

Someone stopped by today looking for “how to sound like you know poker.” Well, Up For Poker aims to please.

When it comes to sounding like you’ve been to a final table at the World Series of Poker, it’s all about the slang.

Here’s just a small Poker dictionary you should overuse at the Hold ‘Em poker table if you want to sound like a pro (feel free to add more in the comments):

All-In: Putting all of your remaining chips in the pot. Ex. slothoki Randy regretted going all-in when CJ held the nuts.

Back Door: This describes a hand in which the final two cads (the turn and the river) fill either a straight or a flush. Ex. We both went all-in with a pair of jacks, but when the third and fourth heart hit the board, it filled his backdoor flush and I went home crying.

Bad Beat: This describes a hand in which a statistically superior hand loses to an inferior hand. Ex. It was a bad beat when my pocket aces lost to 7-2 offsuit. I went home crying.

Big Slick: Having an Ace and a King as your hole cards. Ex. When I looked down at Big Slick in my pocket, I had to go all-in.

Bottom Pair: When one of you hole cards matches the lowest card on the board. Ex. I don’t usually bet the bottom pair, but the other guy had bluffed a lot.

Bullets: A pair of Aces inthe hole. See also: Rockets

Button: The seat directly to the right of the dealer. This player will act last in each betting round after the first. Ex. I would not have played a pair of 4’s except that I was sitting on the button.

Catch: Often goes along with “bad beat” when a player with only a few outs catches one of those cards to win the hand. When a player tells you, “Nice catch,” what they really want to say is, “You lucky bastard.”

Cowboys: A pair of Kings in the hole. Ex. My Cowboys were gold when another King came on the flop.

Fish: A bad player. Remember, if you’re not sure which player at the table is the fish, you may be it.

Flop: The first three cards that come on to the table in Hold ‘Em. Ex. When three hearts came on the flop, I was worried my Cowboys wouldn’t hold up.

Gutshot: An inside straight draw, when a player can only fill their straight with one card. Ex. If I lose to another gutshot, I’m taking my chips and going home.

Hole: Your first two cards in Hold ‘Em. Ex. I love getting Big Slick in the hole.

Kicker: The highest unpaired card in your hand. Ex. We both had a pair of Aces, but my King kicker won me the pot.

Muck: Throwing your hand into the pile without showing them. Ex. When I showed the nut flush, he just mucked his cards knowing he had lost.

Nut(s): The best possible hand. Ex. When I flopped the nut straight, I was just hoping no flush draw or pair hit the board on the turn or the river.

Pocket: The two cards dealt face down. Ex. When I looked down at two sevens I hoped this pocket pair would finally win me a pot.

Rainbow: When the three or four cards on the board are all of a different suit. Ex. My straight looked a lot better considering the flop was a rainbow.

River: The last of five community cards.

Rockets: A pair of Aces in the hole.

Set: Three of a kind when two of the cards are in your hand. Ex. I finally flopped a set when a 4 hit the board to go with my pocket pair.

Slowplay: To underplay a very strong hand as to induce more people to bet. Ex. I slowplayed my pocket rockets only to lose to a flush draw.

Tilt: When a player begins betting indiscriminately after a particularly bad loss. Ex. After that bad beat, he went all-in and I figured he was on tilt.

Top Pair: When a card in your hand matches the highest card on the board.

Turn: The fourth of five community cards. Ex. When a club came on the turn, I had the nuts.

Legal Online dang nhap w88 in the U.S. Is Getting Closer

Legalization of online dang nhap w88 in the United States came one step closer when the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday that “interstate transmissions of wire communications that do not relate to a sporting event or contest fall outside of the reach of the Wire Act.” The Wire Act, legislation enacted in 1961, barred wagering via telecommunications that cross state lines or international borders, a ruling that some claimed also related to online poker and gambling.

Advocates of legalized online poker see the new opinion from the Justice Department as a significant boost which will open the door for states to allow the game for their residents. The District of Columbia and Nevada have already moved to legalize intra-state poker and other states, including California, Iowa, and New Jersey, are expected to follow suit in 2012.

The Justice Department’s opinion would eliminate “almost every federal anti-gambling law that could apply to gaming that is legal under state laws,” wrote I. Nelson Rose, a gaming law expert at Whittier Law School as quoted in the Wall Street Journal. “There is simply no federal law that could apply” against state operators, he wrote on his blog.

Although individual states may legalize online poker for their residents, most of the big casinos are pushing for legalization of the game on a federal level. The Poker Players Alliance says the Justice Department ruling “makes it even more important that Congress act now to clarify federal law, and to create a licensing and regulation regime for Internet poker, coupled with clear laws and strong enforcement against other forms of gambling deemed to be illegal.”

On his blog, Rose is pessimistic for the chance of Congress acting to legalize online poker. “My bet is that … Congress will continue to do nothing, while Internet gambling explodes across the nation, made legal under state laws,” he write.

Sam and Marvin in Bluff’s Top Ten for 2011

Team Titan’s players both ranked high on the final Bluff Magazine’s 2011 Poker Player of the Year leaderboard, with Sam Trickett listed in 6th place and Marvin Rettenmaier right behind him in 7th place.

In August, Marvin had been in third place on the rankings, and at the time the magazine cited his “cashes left and right” and his 6th place finish in the Merit Cyprus $5,500 buy-in Main Event as attributing to his high ranking.

Bluff Magazine ranks players according to a formula that “takes into consideration alternate scoring methodologies for shootouts, re-buys, short-handed and heads-up tournaments. Players receive points if they cash in any open tournament which meets the field size criteria. Only a player’s top ten finishes through the calendar year will count towards the Player of the Year standings.”

Finishing 2011 as Bluff Magazine’s Poker Player of the Year was American Eugene Katchalov. In 2011, Katchalov earned $2.5 million, made final table appearances at the EPT, NAPT, and at the WSOP, and earned his first WSOP gold bracelet.

“We congratulate Eugene on reaching the pinnacle of success that every poker player is striving for -Player of the Year,” said Bluff’s Editor-in-Chief Lance Bradely.

Finishing just behind Katchalov in the rankings was Bertrand Grospellier. 2011 WSOP Main Event winner Pius Heinz was listed in 10th place, followed by Erik Seidel.

Duhamel’s 먹튀검증 Championship Bracelet Recovered

Jonathan Duhamel is relieved to hear that his prized 2010 WSOP Main Event Championship bracelet has been recovered. The bracelet, along with $115,000 in cash and other items including a Rolex watch were stolen from him in a home invasion in December of 2010.

The home invasion occurred outside his Montreal area condo on the night of December 21st, 2010. Duhamel opened the door for what appeared to be a parcel delivery man. But as soon as he opened the door, he was rushed by four individuals- his ex-girlfriend and three accomplices.

Duhamel was beaten, had his life threatened and was then forced to open his home safe. The quartet made off with $115,000 worth of cash, including a number of 500 Euro banknotes, his Rolex watch and his 2010 World Series of Poker Championship bracelet. Fortunately, Duhamel didn’t sustain any serious injuries from the ordeal.

Police were quickly able to retrieve the Rolex watch and half of the stolen cash. In just days they arrested the four allegedly responsible for the robbery. They now face charges of conspiracy, breaking and entering, armed robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and receiving stolen goods. They are currently still being detained in prison, awaiting their trial which is scheduled for this week.

Duhamel’s WSOP bracelet was still missing until last Wednesday when it was found in the receptacle of a street sweeper cleaning truck that had 먹튀검증 been cleaning the Ville-Marie Tunnel. The bracelet was badly damaged, and by the photo it appears that the band was removed. It also looks like an effort was made to remove Duhamel’s name from the engraving in order to make it unidentifiable, and presumably, easier to sell. Given that it ended up on the street, it appears that the criminal gave up on selling the engraved portion of the bracelet.

The 14 karat gold, diamond studded bracelet had been valued at around $40,000, but Duhamel is just glad to have it back due to its tremendous sentimental value. Of this recent find, Duhamel’s manager, Philippe Jette, said, “The sentimental value [of the bracelet] is priceless. We are giving the bracelet to the police, because it is still a piece of evidence, and should help the police with the investigation. We are happy, and Jonathan is doing very well.”

Full-Tilt-꽁머니-FTOPS-8-Event-1

Big buy-in, big field online tournaments always seem to attract the best players in the game, which comes as no surprise. The fields are mixed with players taking  꽁머shots, satellite winners, and of course the pros who frequent final tables amongst all the sites. So it comes as no surprise that the winner of the very first FTOPS VIII event is one of the very best players on the internet, if not the world right now.

The first event of the 8th FTOPS series was a $200+$16 No Limit Hold ‘Em 6-max event, which brought out an enormous field of 4,158 players, which created a swollen prizepool of $831,600, over $80k more than the $750k guarantee. It took just over nine hours for a winner to be crowned, as they took down a nearly $160k first place prize.

As to be expected with tournaments like these, some extremely strong players fell by the wayside close to the final table. Scott Fischman busted in 17th place for $4,782, and did the best out of the Full Tilt pros. Tough online tournament pro, bigegypt, busted in 32nd. Canadian tournament grinder Tim0thee had a great run as well, before he fell short in 62nd place.

The only notable going into the final table was “the guru 11”, better known as mr. menlo, or Issac Baron. Issac has been absolutely destroying high stakes tournaments for the past few years, and has even fared well at high stakes cash. He’s highly regarded as one of the best players around by his peers, as well. Here were the chip counts going into the final table.

  1.    dan_dada: 5,170,074
  2.    the guru 11: 2,533,396
  3.    jnjnlee86: 1,696,750
  4.    CABOWABO23: 1,394,174
  5.    commitment: 899,358
  6.    TheFunseeker: 780,248

And here’s what they were playing for:

1st: $158,852.23

2nd: $97,297.20

3rd: $67,525.92

4th: $49,896

5th: $36,590.40

6th: $24,948

The blinds at the final table started out at 40k/80k, with a 10k ante, which clearly meant that TheFunseeker and commitment were in a lot of trouble, as they wouldn’t last long without making a move. CABOWABO23 was the first to make a big move however, as his stack had dwindled down to 500k. He moved it all in under the gun, and was flat called by the guru 11, who was next to act. Everyone else folded, and CABOWABO23’s 9T of hearts would have to run down the guru 11’s AJ of clubs. Nothing formulated for CABOWABO23, and he was eliminated in 6th place, taking home nearly $25k.

Perhaps the sickest hand of the tournament came just a bit later, as the guru was sitting on a bit less than 2.5 million, and jnjnlee had a bit more than 2.5 million. The guru opened for nearly 210k with the blinds still at 40k/80k. It was folded to jnjnlee in the small blind, who shoved all in over the top. The guru insta-called, showing AK of clubs, vs. jnjnlee’s red AK offsuit. The flop came down 245, with two clubs, putting jnjnlee in jeopardy of losing what should always be a chop. The turn spit out an ugly Queen of clubs, giving guru the nut flush, and leaving jnjnlee with only 1 big blind. Jnjnlee was eliminated by guru just a few hands later, and left in 5th place, for $36.6k.

The guru saw fit to eliminate yet another player, as the blinds were up to 50k/100k with a 10k ante. It folded to commitment on the button who had just over 1 million, and pushed all in. Guru shoved all in from the small blind, isolating commitment. Commitment showed K8 of hearts, in a race vs. Guru’s 44. the flop came down 247, with 1 heart, putting commitment in a bad, bad way. The turn put out a sweat however, as the queen of hearts came, giving commitment a glimmer of hope. However, the river was the seven of hearts, not the heart commitment wanted to see. His flush was no good vs. guru’s full house, and he departed in 4th place, for $49,896.

It came as no surprise of course, that guru was responsible for another elimination, as the blinds were up to 60k/120k, with a 15k ante. TheFunseeker found himself quite short on the button, with only 1.2 million in chips. Dan_dada folded from the small blind, and the guru 11 called in the big blind. The guru found himself in another coinflip, with 33 vs. TheFunseeker’s K6 off suit. The 94Q flop offered no help to TheFunseeker, keeping the guru 11 ahead. The turn 10 gave Funseeker a gutshot, but the river 5 sealed his fate, as he took home a respectable $67,525.92 in 3rd.

It was quite a grind heads-up, as the blinds were up to 100k/200k, with a 25k ante. The guru 11 held a roughly 2-1 chip lead, with 8 million to 4 million, over dan_dada. Dan limped on the button, which was met by a raise to 600k from guru, which dan called. The flop came down 8TA, with two diamonds, The guru bet 600k, and dan_dada moved all in for roughly 3 million more. The guru made an impressive call with QQ, which was ahead of dan’s 36 of diamonds. The turn brought a three, giving dan five more outs, and the river brought a red eight. Unfortunately for dan, it was a heart, and he was taken down in second place, though still taking away and impressive $97,297.20.

As for Issac “the guru 11” Baron, he made yet another amazing notch in his belt, taking down first place in Event #1, and taking home $158,852.23.

PokerStars Pros Accused of Dice Sliding at Las Vegas Wynn Craps Tables

A duo of online toto hk players are in trouble with the law. However, this story has nothing to do with actions at the poker table or at an online poker room. Two PokerStars Pros are accused of cheating a Nevada casino, Wynn Las Vegas, out of $700,000 at the Craps table. Leonardo Fernandez and Veronica Dabul, both from Argentina, are suspected of using a technique called ‘sliding’ to give them an edge in the popular table game.

Earlier this month, the Wynn Las Vegas filed a lawsuit with the Clark County District Court saying both PokerStars pros won about $700,000 during a month-long playing spree that culminated with their arrest on July 18th. The two players are suspected of working with other customers who distracted dealers while they controlled the outcome of the dice by using the technique known as ‘sliding.’

The concept of sliding is simple to understand though the actual practice takes years to master. Basically, sliding involves the roller controlling the outcome of the dice by sliding at least one dice across the table or throwing the dice in a manner that leans the odds of a specific outcome. For example, many sliders throw or slide the dice aiming for at least one die to show a six. This dramatically increases the odds of an eight, nine, ten, eleven, or twelve. When a roller can control the dice and increase the odds of at least one six, the other players may place a lot of money on numbers higher than six (since six and below cannot be rolled if one of the dice is a six) and have the odds lean in their favor. Of course, sliding cannot deliver exact numbers but the players’ edge increases greatly.

The district attorney has not filed charges against either player. Dabul was released after a couple of days in the Clark County Detention Center while Fernandez was turned over to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service. Officials have not commented on Fernandez’s current immigration status.

FlopTurnRiver will follow this story and keep its members covered on any updates.

togel hongkong Variations: European No-Hole-Card Rule

There are a number of blackjack variations that you will encounter when looking to play the world’s favorite table game. One of the most common is often called European blackjack, no-hole card togel hongkong or no-peek blackjack. This blackjack game can be found at online casinos, brick and mortar casinos, cruise ships and more.

In the traditional blackjack game, the players are all dealt two cards and then the dealer gives himself two cards, one face up and a hole card face down. In this blackjack game, though, the dealer only gives himself the up card. He does not deal his hole card until after the players make all of their decisions. Once all of the players’ hands are finished, the dealer then deals himself the hole card and plays out his hand.

The disadvantage of this is that you have less of an idea of what cards the dealer has. In a traditional game, if the dealer has an ace or a ten as the upcard, he will peek at the hole card and see if he has a natural blackjack. If he does, all players lose except those who also have a natural blackjack (they would push). The advantage to the dealer peeking is that if he does have a blackjack, it prevents you from increasing your bet by doubling or splitting. If he does not, then you at least know that the dealer doesn’t have a blackjack, which also helps your strategy.

Not having the dealer check his hole card before you play out your hand puts the players at a disadvantage. The player is taking a bigger risk any time he doubles or splits. This blackjack game increases the house edge by 0.11%.

There is good news, though. Many online casinos and some of their brick and mortar counterparts offset that disadvantage by tweaking the rules. Specifically, they change what happens to your additional bet. With traditional blackjack, if you double your bet, either by doubling down or by splitting, you lose all of the money. For example, if you bet $10 and then double down and lose the hand, you lose $20.

However, sometimes in European blackjack your additional bet would be a push if the dealer gets a blackjack. In this example, if you bet $10 and then double down and the dealer draws a blackjack, you would only lose the original $10. You keep the other $10. This evens things out and gets rid of the disadvantage, since it basically makes it the same as if the dealer had peeked at his hole card. That is because you would never double (and wouldn’t actually have a chance to) if the dealer has a blackjack. If the European blackjack game has rules where your additional bet is a push when the dealer has a blackjack, the house edge is the same as with the traditional game. In this situation, you should follow the same basic strategy as with the traditional game.

Flip It

Introduction

You’ve probably seen Flip-It: You insert quarters or dollar tokens into the machine, mechanical spinners flip the coin up onto a shelf, and mechanical pusher arms push the stack of coins towards the edge. You win coins that spill over the edge.

There are two denominations: quarters and dollars. Both varieties can be found at Four Queens (downtown) and Stratosphere (on the Strip). You can also find quarters at Golden Gate and Vacation Village. I saw lots more of these games around town, but failed to commit to memory which casinos they were in.

Often, coins don’t flip, but instead fall through the spinners and straight into the payout tray. I see people playing the game for the first time who are confused and think they’re doing something wrong, especially when the coins fall through repeatedly. If your coin doesn’t flip, just keep trying.

The Catch

The casino makes its money on the coins that spill over on the extreme left or right edges, which get sucked into the machine instead of being returned to the player. This fact is not so obvious, because the chutes that take coins which spill over the edges are hidden behind สล็อต 168bet signs that say “Spill Pay Area”. These signs have arrows pointing to the middle of bottom shelf, indicating that you receive only coins that spill over the middle, not on the sides.

Basic Strategy

Your coin goes into one of four slots arranged left to right on the front of the machine. Typically there’s a left-hand slot, two middle slots, and a right-hand slot. Coins tend to land in front of the slot they’re inserted into, so you’ll want to play the middle slots. This is Basic Strategy for Flip It. Playing the slots on the sides will mean that more of your coins will land on the sides, and you won’t get those coins back when they spill over.

Flip-It Myths

Contrary to popular belief, the coins don’t keep stacking ever higher and higher. Each machine seeks its own equilibrium for the depth of its stack, and will always return to that depth over the long run. That might be 2 coins deep on one machine and 5 coins deep on another; each machine has its own unique personality, because, after all, these machines are mechanical, not electronic.

Also contrary to popular belief, the casino doesn’t come in and scoop out coins once they stack up very high. That’s because the coins DON’T keep stacking infinitely, and because the casino makes all the money it needs to on the coins that spill on the sides which aren’t returned to the player. These facts are obvious enough with careful observation of a machine, but just to be certain, I confirmed this with an employee at the Four Queens casino in downtown Las Vegas.

Volatility

Machines that gravitate towards shallow stacks have low volatility. You will hit frequently, but get just a few coins when you do. Machines that stack high will have greater volatility: You won’t get payouts as frequently, but when you do, they’ll be larger. The long run expected return is the same. The machine with the least volatility that I found was the dollar machine at Four Queens, which preferred to be about only two coins deep. The four-deep dollar machine at Stratosphere was much more volatile.

Quarter machines have more volatility than dollar machines because the coins are smaller and tend to stack up higher. Quarters played in the middle slots also tend to flip to the sides much more frequently than dollars do, because they’re lighter. Since you ultimately lose coins on the sides, you’ll lose almost as much money playing quarter machines as you would dollar machines. The one redeeming value of quarters is that they’re more likely to flip into a basket (discussed below), although the baskets themselves are nearly worthless.

Baskets

There are small baskets at the very top of the game, and if your coin flips all the way up there and into a basket, you win the number of coins listed on the basket (usually 10, 20, 50, or 100 coins). On some of the dollar machines, the 50-point baskets move continuously back and forth, left to right, for added excitement. If you hit one of these baskets, there’s a bonus round where slot machine reels on the very top of the game spin, and various combinations pay various numbers of coins, with the top jackpot being $2500 or $9999. This jackpot is often listed in an LED marquee to make it look like it’s a progressive jackpot, but it’s really just a fixed jackpot being advertised with a marquee.

The baskets are nearly worthless. In thousands of Flip-It hands, I hit a basket maybe three times, each time the lowest-payout basket. As further proof, in the six weeks I was in Vegas, nobody hit a 50-point basket at the Four Queens dollar machine to get a reel spin. I know this because for the entire six weeks, the reels were stuck on the exact same combination. (And that was a losing combination to boot, that paid out zero coins for its bonus round.) The machines entice you to play the sides by putting the higher-point baskets on the sides. (Don’t fall for it. You won’t hit the baskets, and your coins going to the sides of the machine won’t get returned to you when they spill.) Note that although I believe baskets to be nearly worthless, you’re more likely to hit them on quarter machines than on dollar machines, because the quarters are lighter and flip up higher.

House Edge

I estimated the house edge on the dollar machine at the Four Queens to be about 11.1%. This was based on 405 coins in, 360 coins out, taking about an hour of play, and using Basic Strategy. On any other casino game, 405 rounds would be pitifully small and not at all statistically significant, but Flip It is different. A few hundred rounds of Flip It easily cycles most of the coins in the machine, and it’s very clear from playing even 15 minutes that it’s an even-sum game, with your eventually getting back all the coins you put into it, except for the ones that spill on the sides.

Because these are mechanical machines, different machines will have different house edges. Machines that flip to the middle consistently will have a lower edge, and machines that send more coins to the sides will have much higher house edge. Also, different machines will have different levels of volatility. One machine may tend to stack four levels deep (high volatility), while another tends to stack only two levels deep (low volatility).

I started to do a trial to determine the house edge on a quarter machine, but I was losing so quickly I got frustrated and gave up. I found that quarters tended to flip to the sides more often than dollars because they’re lighter and their trajectory is all over the map. I made a rough estimate that you could easily lose almost as much on quarters as on dollars, just because of all the extra quarters that go to the sides.

Coin Counting

Blackjack players can move beyond their basic strategy and count cards, giving them an advantage over the house. Flip It players can likewise move beyond their basic strategy and count coins, so the odds are in their favor. The concept is simple: Play only when the machine is primed, so that coins are more likely to spill than stack. I tested this theory by playing a trial of 558 coins over several days, playing only when I thought the machine was primed, and I wound up ahead 9 coins. This is a 1.6% advantage, which is more than you can get from counting cards at blackjack. (Blackjack is still more profitable, obviously, because you can bet more than a dollar at a time, and because profitable decks occur more frequently than profitable Flip-It shelves.) At one point in a separate trial, my advantage was 83% after playing only 24 coins.

Had I played more conservatively (playing only when the machine looked EXTRA good), I’m confident that I could have achieved greater than a 101.6% return. But the return is not the ultimate indicator of how much money you make. What you ultimately walk away with is a function of your advantage multiplied by your action (how much money you put into the machine). Playing 500 coins conservatively with a 4% advantage yields the same profit as playing 1000 coins more aggressively with only a 2% advantage ($20, either way).

To count a machine accurately, you must first know how many coins deep that machine gravitates towards, which I’ll refer to as the machine’s “level”. You could find this out by playing the machine for 15-30 minutes, or you could back-count the machine by simply watching someone else play. Once you know the machine’s level, you can use a simple +/- count. Count only coins in the middle, not on the sides:

Every space and level where the stack is less than the level. For example, if this is a 3-deep machine, and there’s a spot that’s only 2 levels deep, there’s one coin missing, so that’s &endash;1. If there’s a spot that’s only one level deep, then that’s &endash;2. Count every deficient spot this way.

-1

Every half-coin space and level where there’s about a half-coin hole. The coins are not pressed together snugly, and you can see straight through to the shelf. When this happens and gap is about the size of half a coin in square inches, count &endash;1 for each level. Let’s say you have a 3-level machine with four half-coin gaps. You have 4 x &endash;3 = -12.

+1

Every space and level where the stack is greater than the level. For example, if this is a three-deep machine, then count every coin on the 4th level as +1.

+1

Every coin that is teetering over the ledge by at least 1/3 coin.

Add these all up and you have a rough idea of your advantage, or lack thereof. When you have a positive count, play the machine. If the machine is negative, don’t play. If the machine is positive, and you play, and you win, count the machine again. If it’s still positive, you can continue playing. Unlike blackjack, the pit bosses don’t care if you back-count and Wong in when the count gets high, but you can’t Wong in whenever you like, since only one person can play the machine at a time. You’ll just have to hope that the person playing the machine before you leaves when you want them to.

I had an interesting experience at the Four Queens. I had been playing the machine for a while, and had relinquished it to a young woman who was watching me and was eager to play. I waited her to finish, and then she turned the machine over to me (in about the same condition as I’d left it), though she continued to watch me although she was ostensibly done playing. Soon I had a major hit for a bunch of coins, which instantly made the machine seriously negative. But as she jealously watched me get that big hit, she asked anxiously, “Can I play now?” I was only too happy to turn the negative machine back over to her at her request, so she could prime it for me again.

The summary, though, is that although you can play Flip-It at an advantage, you can’t make a living at it, unless you can live on a few dollars a day.

Casino Player

In the Dec. 2001 issue of Casino Player, the executive editor ran an article about how she lost $240 playing quarter Flip-It. It was hard for me to believe that someone could be so bad at Flip-It as to lose $240 playing for quarters. That’s a LOSS of 960 coins! You’d have to play at least two hours straight AND LOSE EVERY COIN to lose that much money! Further, I had always suspected that with proper play, Flip-It could actually be played at an advantage — in other words, profitably. I was further challenged by the editor’s assertion that “You simply can’t win on this machine.” That’s why I set out to prove that I could win at Flip It.

Miscellaneous

Unfortunately, Flip It doesn’t accept slot club cards. It should, considering that the house edge (~10%) is way higher than the edge on a typical slot machine.

Most machines have a sticker that says “Game is over 35 seconds after last coin is played. Coins spilled after this time will not be returned to the player.” So if a batch of coins is teetering on the brink and about to spill, and you’re waiting and watching while it takes a while for them to actually drop, you might not get them. But don’t worry, 35 seconds is longer than it seems. I timed it and found that it took 20 strokes of a pusher arm to equal 35 seconds, so while waiting for coins to fall, I simply made certain that I didn’t go longer than 15 strokes before I played my next coin.

I now know more about Flip-It than any man ever should. I’m not sure which was the bigger waste of my limited time on this planet: Trying to beat an insignificant casino game for an insignificant amount of money, or writing a lengthy article about it. Either way, this probably explains why I don’t get many dates.
